Grand Opening of Dapper Day on the Subway

Our dapper dressed group will meet promptly at 9:30am by the upstairs platform at Hollywood & Vine station for a short grand opening celebration. The design of the station reflects Hollywood. This will be a brief stop before traveling on to our first major destination: Barnsdall Art Park.

Sunset/Vermont (Red Line)

Barnsdall Art Park & Hollyhock House (7$ cash*)

Barnsdall Art Park sits atop a hill overlooking beautiful views of Hollywood, the Hollywood Sign, and Griffith Observatory. Starting at 10 am, docents will be available for an exclusive open house at Frank Lloyd Wright’s first Los Angeles project - Hollyhock House. Admission to the open house is $7 - general admission, $3 - seniors over 62 years old, $2 - youth 17 and under. *Please bring cash in exact change.


Barnsdall Art Park is accessible via a series of stairs leading up to the top of the hill.

Heritage Day at El Pueblo Monument & Olvera Street

There’s so much to do at Olvera Street on Dapper Day on the Subway! Great mexican food, margaritas, fun shopping, museums, and free tours of the oldest structure in Los Angeles: El Pueblo. Located directly across Alameda Street from Union Station, El Pueblo de Los Angeles National Historic Monument is the birthplace of Los Angeles and among the many museums and festivities, there will be booths set up at Pico House celebrating LA Heritage Day. We encourage you to investigate the groups that will be present and find out more about Heritage Day at the LA Heritage Alliance Blog: http://laheritage.blogspot.com/

Dapper Day Mixer & Group Photo in Union Station

If you didn’t get a chance to drink a margarita at Olvera Street, we invite you to sit down at Traxx Bar at Union Station. Traxx will give 10% off non-alcoholic drinks and bar menu when you present a valid Metro pass, and all those dressed in dapper attire will receive 10% off alcoholic drinks as well. We’ll also be gathering for a big group photo in the beautiful art deco lobby!

Dapper Ride on Angels Flight! (50 cents round trip!)

The party continues as we ride Angels Flight up and down Bunker Hill. We’ll wave from the windows at passers by as we travel in style up to the top of the shortest railway in the world! John Wellbourne from Angel’s Flight Foundation will be on hand to talk about the history of Bunker Hill and Angel’s Flight! Bring 50 cents in change to ride Angel’s Flight! It’s 25 cents each way with a Metro Pass!

Chinatown (Gold Line)

Shopping and Dining in Chinatown

We’ll wrap up the tour as the sun sets, paper lanterns illuminate, and the neon glows bright in Chinatown. Two restaurants will be available for dining, and there are a wide array of shopping opportunities. After we wrap up, you can continue back to Hollywood & Vine or attend a growing list of dapper after parties around Los Angeles!

Party like it’s 1929! Come enjoy a fun night of swing dancing and live music at the Cicada Club! Live Big Band, great drinks, and fun atmosphere! This location was used in the Oscar Winning movie The Artist! All ages are welcome, but it is recommend to leave the little ones at home. (Best for 18-90 yrs old)


DRESS CODE:

The Cicada Club has a dress code enforced by Mr. Smith, their practically perfect doorman.

Men: Coat & Tie

Ladies: Coctail dress, skirt or pant suit with matching jacket.

At a minimum jacket and tie for men, dresses for ladies please.

No jeans, tee-shirts, zippered jackets, sweaters or athletic shoes.
